Are
you planning to buy a scooter for the first time? Then there must be
numerous questions and confusions in your mind. And the most important
question would be how to choose the right scooter for you? Then read on
the following post and you will definitely get the answer to this
question!
Engine Sizes
Usually, the scooters are manufactured in three engine sizes i.e. 50cc, 150cc and 250cc
where cc stands for cubic centimeters. You can also find other engine
sizes such as 125cc or more than 250cc. But basically 50cc, 150cc and
250cc scooters are highly preferred. What does the size of engine
determines? It determines the speed of your scooter; therefore, you must
choose the engine size based on how fast you need to drive.
- A 50cc scooter generally has a maximum speed of 35 to 40 miles per hour (depends upon the weight of the rider). These scooters are a great option if you will be only riding on the roads that are 40 MPH or less.
- A 150cc scooter has a maximum speed of 50 to 60 miles per hour (again the top speed depends upon the weight of the rider). If you want a scooter for riding on a highway frequently then a 150cc scooter is perfect for you. But in comparison with a 50cc scooter, a 150cc scooter has lower gas mileage probably around 70 MPG range. A 150cc can handle the occasional highway run but it should not be run for larger miles as well as short rides on crowded highways. Because on a highway people prefer more speed and bigger vehicles.
- A 250cc scooter has typically a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour and sometimes more than that. And this scooter is great option for crowded highways and longer trips on highways. Also, if you are a heavier rider then this scooter is best for you.
Electric Scooters or Gas Motorized Kick Scooters
Another factor of deciding on scooters is whether you want an electric scooter or a gas motorized scooter.
- If you are a student and want to use the scooter for your daily commutation then an electric bike is perfect for you. An electric scooter is easy to use and affordable but the speed and battery range are limited.
- And a gas motorized scooter offers better mileage and can be used for commuting to significant miles. So if you want commutation to longer miles then you must go for gas motorized scooters.
So,
in short, you can choose your scooter in two simple steps i.e. pick the
engine size that offers you the sped and mileage you require and
reflect your driving style and requirements.
